Don't forget: include these documents with your application (photo copies are OK):

  • Your PGW Account number (found on your PGW bill);
  • 30 days proof of income, social security numbers and date of birth for all household members;
  • Your most recent PGW bill.

 

Crisis Assistance

Crisis Assistance is a federal grant that is awarded to income-eligible customers who are either without utility service or have received a 10-day shut-off notice. Customers can apply for both Crisis Assistance and LIHEAP benefits at the same time. The application for Crisis Assistance opens on November 4, 2024. 

Crisis Assistance applications can be taken to over a dozen Neighborhood Energy Centers or at the LIHEAP Intake Office [located at 1163 S. Broad St, Philadelphia ,PA  19147]. To locate the site nearest you or find out if you are eligible, call 215-560-1583 or visit the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (formerly known as Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare).

 

PGW Hardship Funds Grant

The PGW Hardship Funds Grant is available for income eligible customers with a termination notice from PGW or are currently without gas service.

Grants are available up to $1,500. Customers are responsible for paying any remaining account balance.

Customers apply in-person at select Neighborhood Energy Centers (click here for map and locations).

To be eligible, customers must:

  • Apply for LIHEAP or Crisis when available.
  • Have an account balance of $0 after the grant is applied.
  • Complete a CRP application at the time of approval, if approved under CRP terms and are at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. This is not required if the Gross Monthly Income (GMI) is between 151-175% of the Federal Poverty Level.
  • GMI must be at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Level.
  • Not have received a Hardship Fund or UESF grant in the last 24 months.

Required documents:

  • Proof of Income: Must provide proof of income from the past 30 days for all household members over 18 years of age.
  • Photo ID: Must submit a copy of a state-issued photo ID or other acceptable form of identification for all household members.
  • COMPASS Benefits Statement: Must provide a COMPASS statement of benefits for the entire household, if applicable.
  • Gas Shut-Off Notice: Must submit a copy of the gas shut-off notice or Credit Denial Letter (CDL).
