Small Carbon Footprint, Big Energy Savings

How does an 88-unit apartment building reduce its energy costs by $20,000 a year? Hint: The answer is not simply to ask residents to lower their thermostats by a couple of degrees.

Don’t get us wrong, lowering your thermostat at night – and while you’re away – certainly helps. But the kind of savings we’re talking about, which add up to tens of thousands of dollars, come from real, long-lasting investments in energy efficiency. With support from PGW’s EnergySense program, Iron Stone Strategic Capital Partners has made one of its multi-family properties more efficient, not just in the way it uses energy, but also in terms of the cost of keeping families comfortable in their homes.

Iron Stone owns Eli Court, an 88-unit affordable housing apartment building nearby LaSalle University. Its vision? Turn Eli Court into an even more comfortable, efficient complex for its residents. PGW, through its EnergySense program, was happy to help

Iron Stone invested in high-efficiency gas and solar-thermal hot water heating equipment, low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators, and thicker roof insulation. When all was said and done, Eli Court’s energy efficient makeover means:

• Almost $20,000 in annual savings on energy and water costs

• A 65-tons per year decrease in carbon emissions

• Increased comfort for residents

• And, a rebate check in the amount of $20,500 from PGW EnergySense.

That’s how PGW helps businesses save green by going green. If you think your business should be doing the same, let’s talk more about how PGW EnergySense can help.
