Put on Your Cape … It’s Your Turn to Save

Can you remember the last time a superhero descended upon our city combating pollution and excess energy usage, or promoting energy efficiency? No?

Sure, there was Captain Planet and the Planeteers in the ‘90s (the show ended, but there are rumors of a movie underway). Anyway, that’s all behind us. Even if super humans were fighting villains of the Earth, they’d be doing it on TV, for 30 minutes each day.

In the real world, PGW leads the way on energy responsibility and paves the way for each of us to be our own modern-day energy efficiency hero. So put on your “green” cape as we go through a quick checklist of Earth friendly moves you can make (without super powers):

• Switch to a low-flow showerhead (this can cut the cost of a hot shower by 50%)

• Run full loads of dishes or laundry to reduce your heat and water consumption

• Use natural gas for heating your home and cooking your meals (homes using natural gas save around $650/year more than those using electricity or coal, says AGA)

• Conduct a PGW home energy assessment (typical assessments cost $500, PGW is offering the same service for a discounted price of $150)

• Upgrade to high-efficiency heating equipment and appliances (not only will you conserve energy, you can also cash in on rebates from PGW EnergySense)

• Participate in an Earth Day event like the Clean Air Council’s 33rd annual 5K Run for Clean Air on Sat., April 19 (The 5K Run is Philly’s largest Earth Day event and PGW will be there!)

We could go on listing more ways to be a modern-day, energy-efficient hero, but we’ve got to get going… We’re delivering rebates to customers who sign up for EnergySense and stand up for their homes, businesses… and the environment.
