PREPARING IS CARING: September is National Preparedness Month
Posted on: Sep 12, 2024September kicked off National Preparedness Month, an annual campaign to remind the public about the importance of preparing for emergencies and disasters. With a rehearsed plan, families and customers can keep their communities safe.
Acting on the theme of this September’s National Preparedness Month, “Start a Conversation,” Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) offers the following recommendations on how to energize and have conversations around safety planning.
So, lets practice what we preach at PGW and start a conversation! We believe gathering around a delicious and nutritious home-cooked meal thanks to natural gas-powered appliances, is a great starting point.
Chatting about possible natural disasters or emergencies is not always easy. Avoiding these conversations to protect emotions and worry may put people in harm’s way.
Here are some tips to get conversations going:
- Select a time and space when everyone is relaxed and not distracted from the day’s activities.
- Create an agenda with guiding topics to cover.
- Ensure the conversation is not rushed by holding the discussion at a set time. These conversations could save a life.
How can you encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions? What advice and direction can you give to your friends and those in your community?
Talking about potential risks can make a difference in the event of a crisis.
This month, take the lead and get the in-person discussions, group Facetimes, or text threads going.
For emergency notifications, families may sign up to receive alerts by texting ReadyPhila to 888-777. Customers may also receive important information on PGW's social media sites (Facebook, X, NextDoor, and Instagram) by following @MyPGW.
