PGW employees share why they love their jobs and their customers

On National Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day (March 18), Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) celebrates our dedicated workforce who proudly serves more than 500,000 residential and business customers throughout the City.

PGW’s 1,600 employees perform a variety of functions all of which are vital to delivering safe, affordable natural gas service to Philadelphia.

Among the many job duties of PGW employees are:

  • Customer service representatives who help customers select payment plans that best meet their budgetary needs.
  • Construction workers who install new mains and service lines to improve service and eliminate methane emissions.
  • Procurement professionals who select diverse vendors and business owners in Philadelphia to support operational needs across the organization.
  • The 24/7 leak detection crews who are committed to safety.
  • Technicians who maintain and repair residential natural gas appliances.
  • Engineers who design the systems and implement technology to deliver clean energy.

“Our employees represent the best of PGW’s core values. They strive to do the right thing, every day, on every job, and go above and beyond to satisfy our customers,” said Seth Shapiro, President, and CEO of Philadelphia Gas Works. “Most importantly, PGW employees care about the safety of our customers, our communities, and their fellow co-workers.
