Smell Gas? (215) 235-1212

IMPORTANT NATURAL GAS SAFETY & EQUIPMENT REMINDER

At PGW nothing is more important than safety. It’s our top priority each and every day. So, as people across the Philadelphia region prepare for this weekend’s winter storm, we’re urging everyone to keep the following safety precautions in mind.

  • Check that natural gas equipment exhaust vents are clear of snow or ice.
Have high-efficiency gas equipment that is vented outside (like a furnace, boiler or automatic hot water heater)? Check them, and if the vent is located within three feet of ground level, it’s vital that you keep it clear of any ice or snow. This will ensure the equipment is properly operating, and eliminates the possibility of any carbon monoxide safety concerns.

  • Keep your outdoor meters free of snow or ice.
If your PGW gas meter is located outside your residence, keep the meter clear of snow and ice for easier access in the case of an emergency. This will also help maintain the proper operation of the gas meter and avoid any disruption of service.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: PGW is a 24/7 operation. If at any time you have a gas emergency or think you smell gas, leave the area immediately and call us at 215-235-1212.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has also released further tips regarding winter storm preparation and reporting outages. You can find that information here.
