Cut Costs with Energy Saving Tips This Spring

Here are a few energy saving tips to keep you from getting hot under the collar.

Stay cool as the weather warms up and still save energy. Check out these simple, low-cost steps you can take for maximum savings through the spring and summer.

  • Use appliances in early morning or evening, when temperatures are lower.
  • Turn off fans when you leave a room. Fans help keep you cool, but most don’t lower home temperatures.
  • Use natural ventilation. If you can do so safely, open your windows while sleeping. When you wake in the morning, shut the windows and blinds to contain the cool air.
  • Lower your water heater’s thermostat. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lowering it by 10 degrees can save up to 5 percent in energy costs.
